Phoenix Crane and Moncrief Heating & Air Work Their Way Through a Tight Spot

Moncrief Heating & Air Conditioning is a family and employee owned company that has provided superior service to Atlanta since 1898!  Spanning three generations, 13 Metro Atlanta counties and over 17,000 customers, Moncrief services, installs and engineers residential and commercial HVAC systems.

Phoenix Crane was happy to provide its services to Moncrief on Friday as they worked to exchange an air conditioning unit at The Colonnades, a historic Virginia Highlands condominium complex built in 1910.  Located at 746 North Highland Avenue and under the protection of the local historical society, the building rests in close proximity to its neighbors, making any kind of renovation or improvement work tricky.

Equipped with one of our 15-ton boom trucks, operated by NCCCO certified operator Gary Johnson, Moncrief worked through the A/C unit exchange job with virtually no room to spare.  Usually, we will send a larger crane in lieu of a smaller crane that the customer requests, at our discretion and at no additional charge to the customer.  In this case, it was a good thing the small crane was dispatched.

Jobs like these are one of the main reasons that Phoenix is so proud to foster existing relationships with companies like Moncrief, so that we can work together to make difficult jobs easier.  A big thank you to Moncrief, Operations Manager Jake Reid and the crew, for your continued business and for a job well done!

PHOENIX CRANE GOES PINK FOR NATIONAL BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

PRESS RELEASE - JUNE 7, 2012

Phoenix Crane Rental of Mableton, GA proudly announces its support for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) (www.nbcf.org) with a generous corporate sponsorship and a pink 40-ton Terex crane to show it off.

Family owned and operated since 1983, Phoenix Crane Rental (www.phoenixcrane.com) is spearheading an effort within the crane industry and their community by donating a portion of the revenues generated by the Pantone® pink crane to the NBCF, whose mission is “to save lives through early detection and to provide mammograms for those in need.”  Corporate sponsorships are critical in furthering and strengthening the NBCF’s mission to gain the advantage over breast cancer. Their initiatives have been lifesaving to thousands of women.

In sponsoring the NBCF, and raising awareness about the nonprofit so that others will follow, the pink crane around town contributes substantially to free mammograms for women in need, promotes early breast cancer detection and provides educational programs that offer answers and advice to anyone whose life is touched by breast disease.

“Over the years, we have contributed regularly to a variety of charities, but have not gotten involved with any particular cause with passion, until now” said Mike Phillips, President of Phoenix Crane. “We knew we had the resources to contribute and the willingness to become involved, we just needed the right partner.  Looking at the NBCF, which is also a family-supported organization, we feel we have found our partner.”

National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) and Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) certified crane operator Jessica Ives has operated the pink crane since its maiden voyage just after Mother’s Day on May 14, and will gladly continue to do so.  “Phoenix Crane has every intention to keep the crane in operation for the lifetime of the equipment” said Karen Barton, Chief Financial Officer and Vice President.  “Every dollar we can contribute yields a far greater personal and organizational return than anything else we could have gotten involved in.”

MIC Steel "Graphic Packaging" Project

The ongoing upgrade of the Graphic Packaging facility in Macon, GA was undertaken by MIC Steel, owned and operated by Tommy Youmans.  Tommy is a hard working, very hands on owner.  Needing a crane with an expert operator at an equitable price, Steve King recommended our Linkblet HC248 truck crane, with 290' boom and jib.  Equipment Superintendant Wayne Abercrombie (aka "Opie), using both our Grove GMK5240 and Linkbeltt HTC8670, assembled his crew from Phoenix Rigging, and successfully placed the crane into a spot which was difficult, to say the least.  Day by day, with Tom White in the seat of the 248, the job has progressed, now nearing completion.  We offer a hearty thank you to Tommy Youmans and his expert crew at MIC Steel for working with us, and a huge amount of gratitude to all at Phoenix Crane to have made this possible.  God Bless you all.

Moving in was just part of the challenging nature of the job Tommy Youmans and his MIC Steel crew was faced with.  Though many "experts" claimed it simply could not be done, we did!
Day in day out, piece by piece, the MIC crew was steadfast in the upgrading of the plant.
The coordination of the two cranes was synchronized through radio communication between Tom White, Eddie Boozer, and Tommy Youmans, with Steve King often lending his expert assistance.
Looking skyward offers an interesting view.
Tommy Youmans, the mastermind with the master plan!

Murphy Tree Service Job - A Real Challenge!

Murphy's Tree Service, owned and operated by Pat Murphy, is a seasoned, professional company well known in the metropolitan Atlanta area for their ability to safely and successfully work in the challenging arbor industry.  Perhaps the most hazardous of professions in which Phoenix Crane performs, tree jobs are approached with much caution and forethought.  This particular job was much more difficult than it appears.  Working with our 30T National rear mount boom truck, operated by veteran NCCCO certified Doug Todd, the tree is now merely a memory for the homeowner.  Jobs such as these are the reason Doug is so often requested, for his knowledge and tenacity to complete the customer's work safely and at an equitable price is the principle goal.  Good job Doug, and thank you, Pat Murphy and your entire crew!

So you think you can dunk over this guy?  Just go ahead and try, we dare ya!  At the least Andy Higgins of Carter Concrete  might slow you down in the lane.  He's got game, on schedule to get the expansion of Alexander Memorial Coliseum on the Georgia Tech campus in downtown Atlanta completed in time for the Yellow Jackets 2012-2013 season.  Using one of our Linkbelt 60 ton rough terrain cranes with Nate Parham at the controls, Andy's job is going well.  Thanks to Andy, Sam Carter, and all the great folks at Carter Concrete!
